IMPORTANT!
When installing to Vista, Always be logged on as the ADMINISTRATOR.
If you are not logged on as ADMINISTRATOR during installation, you may
set file access privileges to full but other PC's logging on to the PC
(specifically in a server installation) will still not be able to gain
shared access! (Lesson cost = 3 days, 4 technicians from 4 different
companies including Microsoft)
(If you were not logged on as ADMINISTRATOR, even if the application
is working fine, uninstall and reinstall)

Vista has quite a few issues relating to security and access to files
and directories but is a very important step forward in the operating
system environments.
We have built and tested SoEasy on it and it works with no specific problems
other than the installation of our network versions.
The problem is not so much in SoEasy it is rather an issue of
Administrative policies on the operating system and that it is difficult
to identify what access a user has on the Vista platform.

User Accounts
Even if you have full Administrative privileges you may not be able
to, or installation procedures may not, modify some files.
You can test this by opening the
C:\WINDOWS\superbas.ini
file and seeing if you can re-save it.
If not, then the User Account Control is probably blocking you. To
solve this:
How to Turn User Account Control on or off
User Account Control (UAC) can help you prevent unauthorized changes to
your computer. It works by prompting you for permission when a task
requires administrative rights, such as installing software or changing
settings that affect other users.
If you do turn it off, you should turn it back on as soon as possible.
- Open User Accounts.
- Click Turn User Account Control on or off. If you are prompted for
an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or
provide confirmation.
- Select the Use User Account Control (UAC) to help protect your
computer check box to turn on UAC, or clear the check box to turn off
UAC, and then click OK.
Sharing
If you install SoEasy in a Vista Environment, if you do not share the
server's SOEASY directory correctly you will not be able to access the
files and you will receive a variety of error messages. This applies to
all Windows environments but Vista can be specifically difficult.
To
test the share you can:
- Open SoEasy on the workstation to the Front Company Menu
- Select 'Options'
- Select 'Network Test' and 'Test Now'
This test will see if a single file on the server can be opened in
different formats.
If not then the server is not allowing the files to be shared even
though the permissions may be all set to full access.
Do check the superbas.ini file for 'sblocal=none' (and SB30.INI if
present in the Windows directory) on the workstations and the server.
Solutions so far are centered around using a specifically designed
Shared folder created through the "Windows Home Server" Console function
which works very well.
