- Install the latest version of wine from
winehq.com for
your distribution.
- You will need to have superuser access to
install wine.
- If you already have a version of wine prior to
the 0.9.5x versions, it must be completely removed (purged) from your
system before installing the latest version.
- Versions 0.9.5x and above should run quite well
and should not require updating,
though as this project is moving forward at such an alarming rate,
with a new
release every 2 weeks, we encourage all users to update.
- When wine is fully installed, run winecfg
from a command prompt as a regular
user. DO NOT run this as root!
- This process may take up to 3 minutes to
complete, depending on the speed of
your system the first time it is run.
- When the Wine Configuration window opens, make
sure you have Windows XP selected as your "system", save and close.
- Download the
SoEasy Installation file file and open it with wine.
- If clicking it opens a dialogue asking what
program to open it with, type wine into the program name dialogue box.
Installation from a command prompt is as
follows.
Please do not type in the "$" at the front of the
line, this is the Unix method of stating
that this command is to be run as a regular user. If the command were to
be run as root, it would be indicated by a "#" symbol.
$ wine /<pathtoexecutable>
Follow the regular installation routine.
For me, the first run routine failed to setup the printer, it may have
been my printer configuration, but there again, maybe not.
Most Unix systems use the Common Unix Printing System by Easy Software
Products, so it might be possible to pipe the print command to the cups
server.
For my testing, after installing SoEasy with wine, I located the install
folder, on my testing system;
/home/mepis/.wine/drive_c/SOEASY and dropped (overwrote-all) the
contents of the unpacked SoEasy accounting folder, then started SoEasy
from the desktop icon provided by wine.
The windows link will not work in LInux, so wine
basically remakes it and the .lnk file can be removed. SoEasy worked
like a charm, though I did not attempt to set up a printer.
ISSUES AND RESOLUTIONS
Printers
27 August 2008 - We
are now examining better ways in which to configure printers.
4 September 2008 - Issue has been
identified and a solution is being written.

Dialog Boxes
Generic Superbase Dialog Boxes that show a list or
allow data entry (REQUEST "","",4,ansd%%,a$) cannot handle the Linux
interpretation of how to size the dialog and the dialog box extends down
the screen.
A re-write of such dialog boxes is under way.
There are 338 of them so it will take approximately 2 days to re-write.
Installation
Linux's directory structure needs to be understood
better. Our installer successfully installed SoEasy to the .wine
directory but in our test we could not find it easily. However by
mistake we installed our programming language to the user directory
which was easy to locate so we need to train the installer to install to
a simple directory structure.
Desktop Icon
Not being automatically installed at the moment
but SoEasy can be found under Applications- Wine - SoEasyAccounting. You
can then copy the icon to the desktop.
